Drafting Technician

This job description outlines the primary day to day activities of this position. Austell Gas System Management reserves the right to change, update and revise.

Principal Duties:

The Drafting Technician works with all departments to ensure the latest company infrastructure designs and changes are accurate, available and understandable.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with local county and state governments to process permits, project plans and road work
  • Uses AutoCAD system to create and design system locations of company related gas main, services, valves, regulator stations and assorted equipment in order to provide accurate available special data to help manage its natural gas distribution infrastructure
  • Completes and updates inner company regulatory reports including: Critical Valve Maintenance preparation and report, Leak Survey Summary report, Business Leak Survey preparation and report
  • Backs up the locating department when necessary; enters locate requests for Austell Gas System and codes locate tickets within the EDEN system
  • Performs GIS Map supervision and maintenance including: Gas facility correction,  Installs new services and main, Makes system changes from distribution maintenance orders
  • Uses ESRI ArcGIS and provides ready-to-deploy mapping applications for improving planning/operations efficiency for Austell Gas System
  • Uses Symphony, Word and Excel in work order creation and pricing for projects
  • Extensive knowledge of printer and plotter maintenance in order to produce company related maps and drawings
  • Uses Trimble (GPS locating unit) to update gas system infrastructure changes
  • Downloads and files camera data from field personnel when damages to Austell Gas facilities occur
  • Maintains record keeping (hard copy and digital) of all Austell Gas System work orders and infrastructure
  • Operate a motor vehicle

Position Requirements:

  • Power user of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point)
  • Ability to learn and use MicroStation, ESRI and AutoCAD systems relative to Austell Gas System distribution system
  • Ability to communicate with other departments, employees and outside customers
  • Motivation to learn and work independently
  • Excellent attendance record
  • Possess a valid Georgia Vehicle Driver’s License
  • High school graduate or equivalent educational qualifications
